Exploring Taipei, Guilin and Chengdu: S.2 - S.4 Form Tour

Saint Augustine once wrote, “The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.” Every year, the form tour serves as a valuable chance to broaden students' horizons, foster cultural appreciation, strengthen class bonds, and encourage personal growth. From 4 to 7 February, our S2, S3, and S4 students embarked on separate form tours to Taiwan, Guilin, and Chengdu, respectively.

S2 Taiwan Environment & Culture Tour

2A Ashlee Mak

From 4th to 7th February, our S2 schoolmates embarked on their adventure to Taiwan. In the span of 4 days, we were immersed within fascinating insights on Taiwan’s environmental protection, geographical conditions and vibrant culture.

Early in the morning, just when the sun rose, our schoolmates were already buzzing in the Hong Kong Airport. After a short hour-and-fifty-minute plane ride, we arrived in Taiwan. Shortly after, we immediately paid a visit to Blessed Imelda’s School, where we exchanged music performances and choral speeches before the students brought us around their lively campus. Following this event, we went to the Beitou Refuse Incineration Plant. The mindblowing mechanisms of the inside works of the incineration plant transfixed us as we watched the process. We then enjoyed a dinner of Taiwan's signature Braised Pork with Rice and headed back to the hotel.

After a good night's sleep, we set off to the Tzu Chi Environmental Action Center.
We were introduced to Taiwan’s complex recycling system, with a wide range of categories for maximum quality of resource management. Afterwards, we enjoyed a quick lunch and set off to Small Oil Pit in the YangMingShan National Park. It was a thralling sight, chemical reactions that continuously spun out puffs of smoke. We then headed to Songshan Culture and Creative Park and Eslite Spectrum Songyan. There, we got to purchase some lovely souvenirs and take a stroll in the stress-relieving park. Finally, we went to Raohe Street Night Market where we all feasted from Taiwan’s local street vendors and experienced the busy nightlife of Taiwanese people.

On the third day, the Taipower Exhibit Center in Northern Taiwan was first on our list. Packed with engaging mini games and displays, the visit allowed us to understand Taiwan’s renewable energy system thoroughly. Visiting Yehliu Geo Park, we got to witness nature’s power over coastal rocks and beaches. Needless to say, we were all in awe. Lunch turned up afterwards, and after swiftly eating, we went to Shifen Old Street. Releasing those red lanterns into the sky brought us an immense sense of hope towards the coming year! Jing Tong Old Street was next up. Train stations and weathered little shops stood wonderfully against the grey sky. Lastly, we had dinner and back to the hotel we went.

The very last day hit us incredibly fast. The morning before we flew home, we checked out early to go to the Shilin Science and Education Center. None of us wanted to leave even after 2 hours of interactive exhibits about diverse topics. Our last stop was the Vigor Kobo Pineapple Cake Dream Factory. We were able to make Taiwan’s iconic pineapple pastry and also purchase some Taiwanese snacks.

As the plane set off and we left Taiwan, we knew that this trip would be an unforgettable venture of education and friendship, forever stamped into our hearts.

From the 4th to the 7th of February, our adventure in Guilin unfolded over four days, immersing us in the region's unique culture, breathtaking landscapes, and historical landmarks.

Our journey commenced with an emotional farewell at Hong Kong West Kowloon Station, followed by a train ride to Guilin West Station. Upon our arrival, we ventured to East-West Lane, a vibrant commercial district filled with the charm of traditional architecture and local culture. Next, we made our way to the Xiaoyao Building Site, an east city tower from the Tang Dynasty, which allowed us to appreciate the depth of Guilin’s history. We then concluded day one of our explorations at the Solitary Beauty Peak Prince City Scenic Area, a picturesque site, with views of Duxiu Peak and the splendid Jingjiang Palace, illustrating the harmonious blend of natural beauty and cultural significance.

On the second day, our excitement continued as we visited Elephant Trunk Hill, the iconic symbol of Guilin. The picturesque setting provided a stunning backdrop for photos with friends and memorable experiences. Our exploration continued with a scenic boat tour on One River and Four Lakes, a beautiful water system comprising the Li River, Rong Lake, Shan Lake, Gui Lake, and Mulong Lake. The experiences on this waterway underscored the beauty of the phrase, "by water, by mountains, most lovely, Guilin." We also journeyed to Daxu Ancient Town, a well-preserved historic area with charming bluestone-paved streets lined with Ming and Qing Dynasty architecture. The visit to Crown Cave was memorable as we soaked in the picturesque mountains of Guilin while travelling to the cave on the monorail. The stalactites in the cave were remarkable and told stories of how Guilin’s natural wonders were formed over millions of years.

On the third day, we immersed ourselves in the cultures of different ethnic minorities in Guilin and enjoyed delightful DIY workshops, where we crafted lacquered fans and indigo-dyed fabrics, enjoying an engaging immersion of the traditional arts of the region. Next, we enjoyed a scenic boat cruise on the Xingping Li River for about two hours, surrounded by breathtaking views of lush mountains reflected in the water. Our day concluded with a visit to West Street, where we savored local delicacies and shopped at different handicraft stores.
On our final day, we engaged in educational exchanges at Guilin Tourism University and some of us even joined in the bamboo dance! After exploring the campus and marvelling at the artistic designs made by the students, we even enjoyed a round of golf, adding a fun twist to our cultural immersion.

Our tour to Guilin was an enriching experience filled with knowledge, laughter, and unforgettable memories. We are immensely grateful to our teachers and guides for facilitating this journey, fostering stronger connections among friends while discovering the beauty of Guilin's landscapes and history. This trip has definitely left a beautiful mark in our memory for us to recall.

S4: Chengdu - A Journey Through Heritage, Culture and Conservation

4C Mohammed Ameera Khera

From 4th to 7th February 2026, our S4 students embarked on a memorable four-day, three-night form tour to Chengdu. Named the Chengdu Heritage, Cultural and Conservation Tour, this journey offered us a profound immersion into the heart of Sichuan—a beautiful blend of ancient history, living traditions, and inspiring efforts in wildlife preservation. Our adventure began with a morning flight from Hong Kong, landing at Chengdu Tianfu International Airport in the afternoon, where the excitement of exploration instantly took over.

Our first taste of Chengdu was at the serene Wangjiang Tower Park, followed by the vibrant energy of Jinli Ancient Street, where we sampled delicious local snacks. The real depth of the experience unfolded on the second day with an early drive to Wenchuan Yingxiu Qiyi Middle School. There, we shared a wonderful cultural exchange with local students, enjoying performances of dance and song, and trading phrases in Sichuan dialect and Cantonese. This heartfelt connection was a true highlight. We then stepped back in time at the solemn Wuhou Shrine, learning about the legendary figures of the Three Kingdoms, before trying our hands at traditional crafts like sugar painting and Sichuan opera mask art. The day reached a spectacular climax with the breathtaking face-changing performance of Sichuan opera, ending warmly over a shared hotpot dinner.

The third day brought us closer to nature and history. At the Dujiangyan China Giant Panda Workshop, we became panda conservation volunteers for a day. Donning keeper uniforms, we prepared bamboo, learned about panda care, and observed these gentle giants up close. The certificate we received was a proud reminder of our small role in their protection. In the afternoon, the ancient Dujiangyan Irrigation System amazed us with its timeless engineering. Crossing the swaying Anlan Chain Bridge offered both thrills and stunning views, while our teachers helped us appreciate the geography and history embedded in the landscape, including sights related to figures like Zhuge Liang.

Our final morning was a peaceful stroll through the Du Fu Thatched Cottage Museum, a tribute to the great Tang dynasty poet, before we began our journey back to Hong Kong. This tour was more than a series of visits; it was a continuous thread of learning—about resilience, artistry, ecological care, and the enduring power of cultural friendship. I am deeply thankful for this meticulously planned experience. The memories of Chengdu—its flavors, sounds, smiles, and lessons—will stay with us, reminding us that to explore is to understand, and to connect is to grow.
