Collaborative Online International Learning
The world has changed due to the pandemic and with it, our excursion programmes will be changing as well. The Excursion Team is excited to share that we are organising the Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL), an international virtual exchange programme, to offer all Hopers an opportunity to continue to discover diverse cultures and develop long-lasting global friendships.

With the theme ‘Diversity in Unity: Appreciating Uniqueness and Commonalities of Culture’, COIL 4.0 unites Hopers with students from La Salle College, Munsang College, Shanghai Normal University Affiliated Middle School and No.3 Experimental School Attached To Shanghai Normal University from Shanghai. Students were divided into teams to present the similarities and differences between many aspects of Hong Kong and Shanghai cultures, such as education, transport and language. Through this experience, Hopers have learnt to appreciate how life in cities far apart can share so much in common, while still retaining local characteristics that make each of them special.
COIL 3.0: Sharing Peace Across Borders allowed Hopers to exchange with 7 schools from Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, the Philippines, Argentina and Bangkok. During the exchange, students got to enhance mutual understanding and were sorted into different teams to build virtual booths that addressed the 17 sustainable development goals set by the United Nations. Each team presented their ideas in unique ways, such as engaging drama performances, fun interactive games, beautiful designer postcards and more! On top of the fun visits to different unique booths, Dr Florence Lay, Chief Executive Officer of CantoGather, was invited as guest speaker. She has inspired participants with her vision for better social inclusion of non-Chinese speaking students in Hong Kong.

The theme of COIL 2.0 was ‘Caring Across Borders’. Students from different participating schools got together to express care for their communities. They were grouped into teams to propose and design an online community service platform to show love and care within the community. There were many innovative and detailed proposals, truly showcasing the participants’ dedication and pursuit for the betterment of our community.
Coil 1.0 was the first ever Collaborative Online International Learning programme, aiming to offer Hopers the opportunity to discover cultural diversity and bond with overseas students despite COVID restrictions.
Our Vice Principal, Mr Pang kicked start COIL with an opening speech, encouraging students to transcend physical borders and reach out to make connections with the outside world. During the exchange, students participated in synchronous and asynchronous sessions. The participants from Sophianum (the Netherlands), La Salle College and our schoolmates had a great time sharing their hobbies and how the pandemic had affected their daily lives. As for the Cultural Presentation, participants shared about their cultures and traditional practices, fostering the discovery of diverse cultures in internationalisation.
