From 16 to 27 July, 16 of us participated in the Switzerland geography and ecology tour to connect with nature, and better understand our living environment. Among the spectacles that we witnessed, some stood out to me.
A highlight of the trip would be the cogwheel train ride up the Schynige Platte trails. Though the train ride was very slow, we came to appreciate it as we started to ascend and capture the ethereal Swiss Alps. We were told that the intimidating mountains had withstood years of weathering as erosion carved into their bodies, resulting in the sharp edges and layers that completely differed from one another. Uniquely shaped by Mother Earth, the mountains were a charm that won my heart.
The next day, we were quickly shown to the other side of Switzerland. We took a train to Jungfraujoch - Europe’s highest railway station. Glacier Plateau was one of the main attractions, as I stepped out of the safety glass doors, chilling winds instantly pierced through my layered clothing, sending shivers down my spine. In the ice-covered playground in the mountains, atop was the Swiss flag waving in the wind, as if welcoming you into its country.
On the other hand, the indoor activities far exceeded my expectations. For instance, at the ice palace were ice sculptures like eagles and penguins kept in -3 degree temperatures. We could admire the meticulous wonders that the local sculptors created.
These are just small glimpses into our 11-day trip. Our journey has truly given me different perspectives and knowledge on the natural world, as well as inspired us humans to conserve it.
