On 13 April 2025, 20 art and history enthusiasts embarked on a journey to Milan, Italy and Paris, France to dive into the artistic culture of these iconic cities. The “Stories behind the masterpieces” art excursion brought us to the two cities’ most renowned museums, galleries and landmarks. As the name suggests, we delved deep into the stories of the art pieces and truly understood the uniqueness of each piece.
This excursion aimed to let us not only learn about the architectural style of Italy and Paris’ cathedrals, the hidden stories behind the sculptures in galleries and historical facts about the well-known architecture. We have also immersed ourselves deeper into the artworks instead of just blankly staring at it, we truly understood what art means to these two cities.
Throughout the trip, we visited cathedrals like Duomo Di Milano and the Cathedral of Santa Maria de Fiore, fascinating art museums and galleries like the Galleria dell’ Academia, the Orsay Museum, the Foundation Louis Vuitton and of course the Louvre Museum, and iconic landmarks such as the leaning tower of Pisa, the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame Cathedral , Palace of Versailles and the Arc de Triomphe.
Out of all of the phenomenal places we visited, there are a few that just stand out. One of these places we visited was Claude Monet’s Garden at Giverny, where we got to have a glimpse at the peaceful life of Monet in the Garden which inspired his many artworks. We got to explore both the water lily pond and the flower garden, while a tour guide gave us insights on the many stories of Monet and his living habits.
Taking the Seine Cruise, we travelled along the river and beneath bridges, past all the views and landmarks of Paris. This was another remarkable experience, as after a long day of sightseeing and “museum-hopping”, it felt great to finally take a seat and breathe in the air of Paris while looking upon all the places we had just visited, the very places that make Paris unique.
Not only did this excursion give us insight into the breathtaking views of Italy and Paris, but it also let us perceive the truer and deeper meaning behind the famous artworks and architectures. Instead of just “seeing” paintings, we really travelled to the past and lived the stories. We all made some unforgettable memories and received many valuable experiences, this truly is a trip we all will keep close to our hearts forever.
