From 29 April to 3 May, our recent student exchange programme welcomed 32 students: 20 students from Minhang No. 3 Middle School Affiliated to Shanghai Normal University and Affiliated Middle School of Shanghai Normal University (High School), and 12 students coming from Beijing No. 15 Middle School, and their teachers, allowing them to immerse themselves in the vibrant culture of Hong Kong and experience the life of a Good Hope student.
Students from Beijing arrived in Hong Kong on 29 April, whereas Shanghai students joined us on 30 April, greeted by their enthusiastic study buddies or host families. During their time on campus, the students attended different lessons, which could broaden their understanding of different learning styles beyond their homes.
On 1 May, the students enjoyed a fruitful day with their host families or study buddies, where our students lead them through the bustling streets of Hong Kong. This day was a highlight of the programme since participants had the opportunity to explore iconic landmarks and local districts, deepening students’ appreciation for Chinese culture. They tried various culinary delights, for example, egg tarts and egg waffles, whilst happily sharing stories about their hometown cuisines and their life back in Shanghai and Beijing.
During their visit, they had the opportunity to join us on the Catholic Action Day at school. The students engaged in various activities in multiple booths, like bracelet making and movie appreciation, enjoying a diverse choice of games. Accompanied by the cultural ambassadors, the afternoon was dedicated to a tour of Hong Kong. The students tasted flavourful Chinese delicacies once again at Ying Dining, which were met with delightful smiles on their faces. They also immersed themselves in the creativity of local artists by going to the Hong Kong Museum of Art. As the day progressed, we returned to school for a welcoming dinner.
As the programme came to a close, it was sadly time for us to bid farewell to the Beijing students, whilst the Shanghai students continued their adventure by heading to Ocean Park for a day filled with thrilling rides and marine life exhibits with their host families or study buddies.
