A Journey of Compassion and Connection

During the Easter holiday, a group of 18 students embarked on a heartwarming service tour in Ho Chi Minh City, from March 24th to 28th, 2024.
Their journey began with a visit to an elderly home nestled within a serene Buddhist temple. Despite the language barrier, the students used simple gestures and facial expressions to engage the residents in games and activities, bringing smiles to their faces and warmth to their hearts.
What made the experience even more special was the discovery that some of the elderly residents could speak Cantonese. This unexpected connection led to heartfelt conversations where the students learned about the challenges and hardships endured during the Vietnam War. Tears flowed as empathy bridged the gap between generations.
Spending time with the children
The volunteering experience at Chùa Kỳ Quang 2 Buddhist Temple's orphanage was remarkably impactful as well. Students had the chance to organise interactive activities with the children and teach them some simple English. Through the use of hand gestures, both sides successfully transcended the language barrier and established emotional connections.
The painting sessions provided students an opportunity to communicate with the children through the universal language of art. Shared laughter and experiences throughout the activities fostered a profound sense of belonging for everyone. Interacting with children from a different culture offered a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to nurture love and compassion.
The Easter service tour in Vietnam was more than just a trip; it was a journey of compassion, understanding, and shared humanity that will be cherished by the students for years to come.
